Direct Instruction TUTORING SERVICE

Direct Instruction (DI) is an educational framework centered on carefully organized lessons that break down learning into small steps and provide clear teaching objectives. This method is based on the idea that precise instruction can greatly improve and accelerate the learning journey.

Evidence-based programming provides systematic instruction in reading, spelling and writing to help students master essential literacy skills.

Reading Mastery is delivered to addresses phonemic awareness, phonics, word analysis, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, and word recognition skills.

Spelling Mastery is used to build dependable spelling skills through a highly structured method that blends the following approaches:

  • Phonemic approach – helps beginning spellers learn the relationships between spoken sounds and written letters and then apply them to spelling
  • Morphemic approach – exposes advanced spellers to prefixes, bases, and suffixes
  • Whole-word approach – gives spellers at all levels the meaning and root of a word and shows how the word’s spelling is influenced

Expressive Writing helps students learn to express ideas by writing sentences, paragraphs, and stories. The program addresses essential skills with four instructional strands: Mechanics, Sentence Writing, Paragraph and Story Writing, and Editing. In every lesson, students learn to write with structure, coherence, unity, along with correct grammar and punctuation.

The program is led by an experienced Ontario Certified Teacher. To achieve your child’s academic remediation goals, we recommend two one-hour sessions per week.

An intake assessment will be done to ensure appropriate skill level grouping.

"All programs that we have attended have been amazing! I like that even when we register for the same program each season, the programming is different. They encourage my child to try new things but don’t push him to the point he feels pressured."

"My hopes for my child are the same as any other parent … I hope for him to have friends and be able to have the same kind of fun I know other kids are having in their extracurricular activities."

Mother of an exceptional boy

"I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the activities my son completed during the Fun with Friends program. My son has attended other social groups which focused mainly on skill building. I loved that this program focused on hands-on learning and was actually fun for my son. I think this is the best way to learn!"

"Fun With Friends establishes core skills and understanding of making and maintaining friendships. Social skills have improved, he wants to play and have fun. This is a comfortable environment for learning and expressing himself without the fear of being judged by others. He realizes there are other kids like him and that he is well liked, he belongs and can be himself."
