Phonics with Friends™
A Booster Group ProgramPhonological awareness is the foundation for reading and writing the English language. This weekly program develops a child’s knowledge of sound/letter correspondences (phonics) through explicit teaching, games and activities.
The flow, materials, activities, and program environment are specifically curated and designed to support a wide range of social, communicative, and emotional needs.
All activities embed the fundamentals of socialskilled, which are: learning and working with others, making friends, and keeping friends.
Academic goals are responsive to the needs of the participants and may include: Use understanding of the sound structure of spoken words to orally isolate, blend, and segment phonemes; Name and form the upper- and lowercase letters both in and out of order and demonstrate knowledge of alphabetic order; identify, read, and spell most common grapheme-phoneme correspondence of consonants and vowels, with automaticity.
Each participant will be provided a personal Reading Eggs™ account for at home practice during the session.
The program is led by an Ontario Certified Teacher.
