Phonics with Friends™

A Booster Group Program

Phonological awareness is the foundation for reading and writing the English language. This weekly program develops a child’s knowledge of sound/letter correspondences (phonics) through explicit teaching, games and activities.

The flow, materials, activities, and program environment are specifically curated and designed to support a wide range of social, communicative, and emotional needs.

All activities embed the fundamentals of socialskilled, which are: learning and working with others, making friends, and keeping friends.

Academic goals are responsive to the needs of the participants and may include: Use understanding of the sound structure of spoken words to orally isolate, blend, and segment phonemes; Name and form the upper- and lowercase letters both in and out of order and demonstrate knowledge of alphabetic order; identify, read, and spell most common grapheme-phoneme correspondence of consonants and vowels, with automaticity.

Each participant will be provided a personal Reading Eggs™ account for at home practice during the session.

The program is led by an Ontario Certified Teacher.

"All programs that we have attended have been amazing! I like that even when we register for the same program each season, the programming is different. They encourage my child to try new things but don’t push him to the point he feels pressured."

"My hopes for my child are the same as any other parent … I hope for him to have friends and be able to have the same kind of fun I know other kids are having in their extracurricular activities."

"I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the activities my son completed during the Fun with Friends program. My son has attended other social groups which focused mainly on skill building. I loved that this program focused on hands-on learning and was actually fun for my son. I think this is the best way to learn!"

"Fun With Friends establishes core skills and understanding of making and maintaining friendships. Social skills have improved, he wants to play and have fun. This is a comfortable environment for learning and expressing himself without the fear of being judged by others. He realizes there are other kids like him and that he is well liked, he belongs and can be himself."
